Hasanuddin University (Unhas) reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education by holding a three-day Focus Group Discussion (FGD) from November 21 to 23, 2025. This important event focused on the development of Guidelines for Inclusive Teaching for Students with Special Needs (MBK) and was held at the Hasanuddin University Hotel & Convention.
This FGD aims to produce standard guidelines that can be applied by all lecturers at Unhas, ensuring that students with special needs have equal and adaptive access to quality teaching. Head of the Unhas Quality Assurance and Education Development Agency (LPMPP) Prof. Dr. Ir. Musrizal Muin, M.Sc, in his speech at the opening, stated that today we will work for Indonesia, which is a guideline that is a strategic step to realize a truly independent campus.
“Education is the right of every individual, and our duty as an institution is to remove all existing barriers. These guidelines will serve as a roadmap for lecturers in designing disability-friendly curricula, teaching methods, and assessments,” he said.
This event featured expert speakers from various backgrounds, including the Head of the Disability Center, educational psychologists, inclusive education practitioners, faculty representatives from various departments, and most importantly, representatives from students with special needs and their parents. The direct involvement of MBK is expected to provide practical and valuable insights into the real challenges they face in the academic environment.
Some of the main issues discussed in the FGD included:
- Adaptation of teaching materials for students with visual and hearing impairments.
- Flexible and fair assessment strategies.
- Use of assistive technology in learning.
- Development of empathy and inclusive awareness among the academic community.
It is hoped that the final results of this FGD can be disseminated and implemented in the next semester, making Unhas a model campus for the implementation of inclusive education in Indonesia.
